ENJOY A GOOD NIGHT'S REST...EVERY NIGHT

WHAT IS SLEEP APNEA?

Sleep apnea is a disorder in which the muscles in the throat relax to the point of collapse, restricting airflow. This causes breathing to become shallow and even stop for seconds or minutes at a time, depriving the body and brain of oxygen. The lack of deep sleep can cause significant fatigue and elevate the risk for serious health problems. Most people with sleep apnea are unaware they have it.

UNDERSTANDING THE 3 TYPES OF MACHINES

Sphere on Spiral Stairs

1

ONE PRESSURE

A CPAP is a fixed-pressure machine, which means it delivers one consistent airflow pressure that is set by your doctor.

2

AUTO-ADJUSTING PRESSURE

An APAP is an auto-adjusting machine that changes your airflow pressure level throughout the night based
on your sleep position and what stage of sleep you’re in.

3

TWO AIR PRESSURE

A bilevel is ideal for people who have trouble adjusting to airflow pressure. It includes two pressure level settings: a higher pressure when you inhale, and a lower pressure when you exhale to improve breathing comfort.

DEVICES & TUBING REPLACEMENT

REPLACEMENT FILTER / DISPOSABLE FILTER

If the environment is particularly humid or dusty, then the disposable filter won't last as long. Visual inspection is the key to determining disposable filter life.
When: As often as twice a month depending on condition

HUMIDIFIER REPLACEMENT

HUMIDIFIER WATER TUB

Humidifier water chambers may become discolored, cracked, cloudy or even pitted due to the mineral levels found in most tap and drinking water. As the material deteriorates, cracks may trap bacteria from moisture.
When: As often as every 6 months depending on condition.

CPAP DEVICE REPLACEMENT

CPAP DEVICE

The typical life span of a CPAP device is 5 to 7 years. We highly recommend getting a
backup CPAP machine especially if your current machine is more than a couple of years old. That way you'll never be without a CPAP machine, even when one of yours stops working.
When: Every 5 years

TUBING

For maximum comfort we recommend replacing your tubing as often as every 3 months depend on the condition

HEADGEAR REPLACEMENT

Over time and use, headgear may become stretched and lose elasticity, leading to over-
tightening and discomfort.
When: Replace as often as every 6 months, depending on condition.

MASK REPLACEMENT

FULL FACE CUSHION

Over time and use, the silicone on the cushion can become worn, damaged or unable to be
cleaned thoroughly.
When: Replace as often as every month, depending on condition.

NASAL PILLOW

Over time and use, the silicone on the cushion can become worn, damaged or unable to be
cleaned thoroughly.
When: Replace as often as twice a month, depending on condition.

ORAL NASAL MASK CUSHION

Over time and use, the silicone on the cushions can become worn, damaged or unable to be cleaned thoroughly.
When: Replace both oral and nasal pillows cushions as often as twice a month, depending
on condition.

  • What is the difference between full face, nasal, and pillows CPAP masks?
Full face CPAP masks cover both the nose and mouth, nasal masks cover only the nose, and nasal pillows masks seal around the nostrils. The choice depends on individual comfort, breathing patterns, and mask fit.
  • How to Choose the Correct CPAP Mask
What are the main types of CPAP masks? There are three main types: Nasal Masks: Cover just the nose; good for nose breathers. Nasal Pillows: Fit directly into the nostrils; minimal and great for side sleepers or claustrophobic users. Full-Face Masks: Cover both nose and mouth; ideal for mouth breathers or those with nasal congestion
  • What if I move around a lot during sleep?
Try a mask with: A secure headgear A flexible frame or a swivel at the hose connection Nasal pillows or minimal-contact masks might work well if you’re active in your sleep
  • I have facial hair. Will that affect my mask choice?
Yes. Facial hair can affect the seal of a full-face or nasal mask. Nasal pillows often work better for those with beards or moustaches.
  • What if I feel claustrophobic in a mask?
Go for a minimal design, like: Nasal pillows Low-profile nasal masks These reduce facial contact and help ease the feeling of being closed in.
  • How often should I replace my CPAP mask?
Cushions/Pillows: Every 2-4 weeks Headgear: Every 6 months Mask frame: Every 3 months Regular replacement ensures a good seal and hygiene.
  • Do all masks work with all CPAP machines?
Most CPAP masks are universal and fit all standard machines, especially ResMed and Philips systems. But always check compatibility, especially with travel CPAPs.
  • I wake up with red marks or leaks – what should I do?
his could mean: The mask doesn’t fit correctly Straps are too tight or too loose The cushion is worn out
  • What is the difference between standard CPAP and Auto CPAP?
Standard CPAP delivers a constant pressure throughout the night, while Auto CPAP adjusts the pressure based on your breathing patterns, providing a more personalized therapy experience.
  • Who is ResMed?
ResMed is a global leader in sleep and respiratory care, known for their high-quality CPAP machines, masks, and digital health solutions. With decades of experience, they’re trusted by sleep specialists worldwide.
